Because of Ukrainian Catholics, the Pope came down on their side without understanding that Russia was "forced" to respond militarily because of THE VERY REAL THREAT TO RUSSIA'S EXISTENCE AS ONE NATION posed by NATO. 

THE PROBLEM IS NATO. 

No NATO no war.

IRONICALLY, the Vatican does NOT use ITS POLITICAL CLOUT since it lost the centre of Italy (that was run by the Church) to the forces of national Italian unity.

The Church prefers to be "ON THE SIDELINES".

CONSEQUENTLY, LIKE THE USA, IT LIVES IN ITS OWN PSYCHOTIC BUBBLE "playing church" rather than get involve in world affairs WHICH IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO. 

It will once we (I'm a Catholic.) have a pope of the Liberation Theology persuasion.

Until then, the Church will NOT BE IN GEAR + the prelates will continue TO GET FAT LIKE PREGNANT SOWS (Ha! Ha!) living in the lap of luxury as SANCTIMONIOUS FREELOADERS. :D

Political leaders meeting with the Pope is - in my view - is generally an uneventful WASTE OF TIME: however, there have been EXCEPTIONS like GORBACHEV after his VICTORIOUS VISIT to Canada + the visit of Palestinian Leader YASSER ARAFAT who RENOUNCED VIOLENCE after meeting the Pope.

THE VATICAN APOLOGY is A BIG WIN FOR President Putin + THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX well-run CHURCH, THE POWER BEHIND THE THRONE. :D
